The Balkan Peninsula
The Balkans is a region located by the Aegean Sea and extends northward. It starts as far northeast as Moldova, and goes northwest to Slovenia. This peninsula extends Southward all the way to Greece. This area was once called the powder keg of Europe. It was the first major powder keg, and received its name from all of the small wars that have stemmed from this region which led to a larger conflict known as World War I.
